Activities

Golf

The Aberfoyle Golf Course was designed in the 1950s as a result of Bill Igoe’s love for the game. This 9-hole course is challenging, but set amongst the tea plantations and beautiful forests, with fairways along the river’s edge, it has to be one of the most iconic courses in Zimbabwe. Sets of golf clubs are available to hire and caddies are available at your request.

Guided Birding

Aberfoyle Lodge is fortunate enough to be the home to many special and rare bird species. Morgan is our on site bird guide who has a wealth of knowledge. He is said to be one of the best local guides in Southern Africa. Morgan is guaranteed to spark an interest in birding as you walk the forests with him.

Nature Walks

We have so many beautiful walks in the area. If you would like a guide who can combine a bit of knowledge to a walk, or to take you to some waterfalls, then please let the front of house know so that we can arrange this for you. Our paths are marked with painted footprints so you are welcome to explore on your own.

Waterfall Sites

There are three beautiful waterfalls close to the lodge. Each of these are able to visited on your own or with a guide. 3-Man Waterfall is just below our lovely vegetable garden, only a 10 minute walk from the lodge. Mermaids Pool is a stunning waterfall with a great natural swimming pool. It is about 45 minutes walk from the lodge, or a short 10 minute drive. The Bumslide is our renowned natural 10 meter smooth waterslide on the Nyawamba River, it is a short drive from the lodge and is great fun for the whole family.

Putt-Putt

Our 18-hole Grass Putt Putt course is a lot of fun for everyone and can get quite competitive between families and friends. You are more than welcome to use our putters and balls, which can be requested at the front of house.

Tea Factory Tour

The tea factory tour involves seeing the whole process of how the tea leaves get from field to cup in less than 24 hours. Coupled with some history of the stunning estate, it is definitely worth it and extremely interesting for everyone.

Picnic Sites

We have some wonderful options for picnics, both close to the lodge and a little further away. Wamba Dam is one of them; a lovely spot to relax with a light meal and drinks. If you would like ideas on where to picnic with packed lunch or picnic basket please speak to our front of house.

Billiards

The Billiards Room holds a beautiful piece of history. Our billiards table was built in Soho, London, it then travelled around the world to Africa. This incredible piece of workmanship was transported on donkey carts into the Honde Valley. Please note that no children are allowed in the Billiard’s Room.

Mountain Biking Trails

There are so many places to mountain bike around Aberfoyle but be weary as none of them are flat! We are in the process of developing some specific trails. Unfortunately, we don’t have any mountain bikes to hire out at the moment so please bring along your own.

Tree Canopy Tour

Just below Aberfoyle Lodge, along the Nyamkombe River high in the forest Nutonia’s is the first of Zimbabwe’s Canopy Tours. This set of ziplines was developed by Far and Wide Zimbabwe and their staff will guide you through an adrenaline filled activity.

Vegetable Garden Visits

We have a large, prolific vegetable garden just below the lodge. A large amount of our fresh vegetables used in salads and meals are freshly picked from the organic garden. Please feel free to wonder down to the garden. There is also a lovely lawned area on the river’s edge perfect for picnics.

We hope that you enjoy the wide range of activities that we offer. We are continuously looking at inventing new activities aimed at the whole family, so if you have any great ideas, please do let us know.
